There are many different types of motorcycle available but two of the most popular besides the regular kind are sports and off road motorcycles. The two are very different in how they perform and what situations they can be used in. Some of the different situations they can be used in and how each one works are:
Sports motorcycles – They come in different classes these are; Street bikes – these are suitable for road use and one of the most common sports motorcycles bought because of the fact they are probably the most practical when it comes to riding on the road. Although they are very fast compared to most cars (they have the ability to go from 0 to 60mph in around 4 seconds) they are one of the most inexpensive types of sports motorcycle to buy that’s one of the reasons that makes them so popular.
Super sport – these are very similar to the street bikes but are a lot more powerful (with the smallest engine being 600cc) and would be quite a bit more expensive to buy and run. Super bike – with super bikes there are again similarities to the super sports bikes although the smallest engine in a super bike is classed as 1000cc. These types of bike aren’t usually used on road they are used widely on race tracks and also drag strips. They cost the most out of all the sports motorcycles just because of the power they have, they tend to be fairly light as well this making the top speeds higher but they need more work on the frame to make them safe at high speeds.
Off road motorcycles – This type of motorcycle is completely different to the sports bikes by appearance and performance. They have a very minimalist body work and tend to have fairly small engines around 400cc, where as sports motorcycles are very powerful and have streamline fairings. Some of the characteristics of an off road motorcycle are they are light weight, have a long travel for the suspension forks, high ground clearance, large wheels with a deep tread and they don’t usually have much road equipment either (indicators etc). They are very specialist vehicles and are used for sports such as motocross, motorcycle trials, time trials and Enduro trials.
Both of these kind of motorcycles are fairly specialist especially the off road bikes so when buying them make sure you go to a dealer that has knowledge on them so they can help give advice on which specification of bike would be the best for you.
